Walnut dining table & Pau Ferro Benches

Handmade Furniture- Dining Table and Benches made out of solid wood and resin/epoxy. Walnut, Maple, Oak, Cherry, Pau Ferro or any wood choice. Benches made out of solid Pau Ferro, Walnut, Maple or any wood choice.

In addition to having our meals on the dining table, it is where the kids do their homework, I look over and pay bills, my wife will sometimes set it up as her office desk. In short, dining tables serve many functions and depend on the user’s needs. I will be delighted to discuss how I can help create a unique piece you will enjoy for years to come.

Built without compromise

Handmade Furniture- Dining Table made out of solid wood and resin/epoxy. Slotted wood joinery bolts with threaded inserts and c-channels for handling seasonal wood movement.

Every project begins with the analysis of the design, measurements, features, materials, etc. I make sure that all those aspects work with the structural elements including the where and how of joinery and mechanical fasteners where needed.

The image here is the underside of the Walnut table. Four threaded inserts are installed for each leg. Flowyline made these powder coated steel legs. The legs are flush mounted to maintain accurate height and aesthetics. These legs provide critical surface area at the top where the legs meet the table. This is essential to providing enough area for wood joint connector bolts to pass through wide slots. These wide slots ensure that the wood can move seasonally once the bolts are screwed into the threaded inserts in the table. The bottoms of these legs have built-in leg adjusters.

The c-channels ensure that they hold the boards flat horizontally when the wood moves seasonally. The c-channels are flush mounted to maintain aesthetics and provide wide slots for the bolts to screw into the threaded inserts. This ensures that the table top does not warp as it ages.

The process

Handmade Furniture- Dining Table shown at glue-up stage. Made of 7 walnut boards.

Watching raw wood transform and change as I work on it is a reward in itself. The grain and the texture change as I mill, sculpt, sand and finally apply finish.

The picture here shows the dining table just after its glue up stage. Seven Walnut boards were milled and glued up to achieve the width of the table. While the glue up is seamless, the grain reveals a different story and identifies each of the 7 boards. The upside is that the cost is much lower.

Alternatively, one four-foot-wide plank of wood could be used to provide unmatched grain continuity. The downside is that the cost for a four-foot-wide plank is substantially higher.

I will be delighted to find out what your needs are and discuss how I could help to achieve them.
