The iconic Sam Maloof low-back dining chair. The chair Sam Maloof called his best!

When I first started woodworking, the thought of attempting this chair was frightening. Every component of this chair- seat, back rest, arm rests and legs- requires sculpting. Every piece connects to the other at an angle and each piece requires a thoroughly well thought out plan. One mistake and you must start again.

Eight months of planning and work later, I created my first Sam Maloof inspired chair as documented here. Making this chair has been an exercise in patience and perseverance. I have sat there and looked at this chair for hours in absolute awe thinking about the genius of Sam Maloof and that indeed it is the finest example of chair.

I have documented two examples below. One in Maple and the other in Walnut. This chair can also be made using Oak or Cherry. If you would like to discuss the commissioning of one or more of these chairs, I will be delighted to hear from you.
